The Little Seed With the Biggest Heart (An Easter Poem for All Ages)

symphony butterfly tree vector

The little seed slept by itself
Not sure where life would lead
Little did it know that one day soon
It would be planted, and humanity freed

That little seed, all bound and safe
Beneath the crumbling earth
Held captive in its memory
The story of our dear Saviour’s birth

It had laid silently, watching on
As days and years passed by
Awaiting its moment of beautiful glory
Before the world, when every heart would sigh

You see, that little, humble seed
Would soon be sown and grow
Into the most precious tree
Upon which love would eternally flow

Up and up and up it grew
And no-one paid attention
But that little seed with the biggest heart
Soon had a purpose within the story of salvation

’Cause it was cut down in its prime
And formed into the well known cross
Carrying mankind’s sins upon it
Feeling the pain of wounded blood loss

But even though that little seed
That became the most famous tree
Felt none of the turmoil, torture, rejection
It held in its arms … sweet mercy and grace for me

So as you remember what you’ve been shown
How Jesus died for everyone
Please know that only in receiving His forgiveness
Will your life be free, and victory won

MY LIFE, IT PIERCED YOUR HEART (A Song of the Cross)

Calvary Silhoettte

I stood there at the crossroads
Not knowing which way to turn
Follow the wide, wide road to pleasure
Or step onto the narrow way and of You Jesus, learn

My heart, it beat so loudly
I’m sure the angels could hear
Everyone was moving so quickly
Oh! My soul, make a decision, you have nothing to fear

Chorus
And as You hung there
You took a breath for me
You watched me turn away
It was more than I could bear
Deep within Your heart, a tear fell silently
But You knew that one day I would come to understand
How my life, it had pierced Your heart
Oh! How it had pierced Your heart
And sweet love then tore it apart

Nothing to fear on the narrow
Nothing to fear in Your steps
Just follow the light of Your glory
Fall into Your waiting arms and feel the love in its depths

But the wide road looks clearer
I see around the corner
The narrow way is dark and hidden
If I step on, I might not be able to go further

Chorus
And as You hung there
You took a breath for me
You watched me turn away
It was more than I could bear
Deep within Your heart, a tear fell silently
But You knew that one day I would come to understand
How my life, it had pierced Your heart
Oh! How it had pierced Your heart
And sweet love then tore it apart

Then I heard a still small voice
And the Lord, He took my hand
He helped me take my very first step
Along the now lit, flower strewn way to the Promised Land

Chorus
And as You hung there
You took a breath for me
You watched me turn away
It was more than I could bear
Deep within Your heart, a tear fell silently
But You knew that one day I would come to understand
How my life, it had pierced Your heart
Oh! How it had pierced Your heart
And sweet love then tore it apart

And my burdens, they lifted
As the path before me cleared
Now my eyes could beautifully see
And I listened to angelic songs, like I’d never heard

0h! Jesus, my dear Saviour
Thank you for rescuing me
I’m no longer at the world’s crossroads
Life and peace, love and joy have now drawn me eternally

Yes I pierced Your heart
And my back was turned on You
I totally ignored You
As I went about my day
But You breathed Your dying love
Upon me and opened up my heart
Allowing me to receive all things
All things You now impart
And so I thank you
From the bottom of this new, new heart
This heart You’ve washed and comforted
This heart that cries ‘Thou Art’
I cannot ever fathom
Why You would love me so
But I am ever thankful
Oh! Lord, I love you so
I just want You to know
I just want You, want You to know

His Death, Our Life

the cross

Pierced by hatred
Pierced by thorns
Crowned with pain
He died for all

Unrelenting agony
Suffered He for us
Torn, jagged flesh
Whipped with cruel bone

Life, it left Him
Emptying, abandoning
Covering every sin upon Him
Crimson, yet spotless, He bled for me

Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide
In bondage to those nails
A prisoner; but free
Fulfilling the will of the Father

May we never cease to cherish
That cherished moment
When He cried, “It is finished”
Glory to God in Heaven, forever shall be
