As A Child Believes

child girl portrait

As the world sails idly by
Thoughts to long lost childhood fly
I’m being brought into a sweet place of rest
Where only, yes only, Father knows best

Out of doubts, frustrations, fears
Of darkness as evening nears
Out of the continual rushing around
Into the refuge where His peace is found

I sense joy, father to child
He’s drawn me from oceans wild
A gentleness, softness surrounds me now
’Cause my heart, it surrendered to His plow

Here’s the thing, the stumbling block
That hid light on freedom’s lock
I kept saying, believing, ‘I believe’
But deep down, I couldn’t truly receive

Back to childlike faith I go
Sheltered under wings aglow
I know He will lead me from stone to stone
Through this new valley where others have flown

So many things I have learned
Blessed friendship flowers earned
And I’m so thankful for each step taken
For all who, lying thoughts, they have shaken

This my journey to belief
With new thoughts of pure relief
And like a child awaiting a party
I’m excited, ready, Father lead me
